The American Carbon Alliance is calling on Congress to act swiftly to extend and finalize guidance for the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit — a critical tool for rural America.
In a recent letter to lawmakers, ACA CEO Tom Buis emphasized that 45Z isn’t just an energy policy — it’s a lifeline for struggling farmers. With high input costs, falling commodity prices, and shrinking export markets, producers need real demand for what they grow. The 45Z credit creates exactly that by rewarding low-carbon fuel production like ethanol, opening new domestic markets without relying on subsidies or bailouts.
But farmers and investors are in limbo without clear implementation guidance. And a short-term extension won’t cut it. ACA is pushing for a 10-year extension to provide the stability needed for billions in rural investment and innovation.
The message is clear: If Congress wants to support rural America, they need to act now. Farmers don’t need more uncertainty — they need markets. They need 45Z.
