ACA Urges President Trump to Make Corn Ethanol Part of America’s Maritime Energy Future

This week, the American Carbon Alliance sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump urging his Administration to ensure American-grown corn ethanol is recognized as an eligible feedstock for low-carbon maritime fuels.

As global shipping works to reduce emissions, a new market is emerging for low-carbon fuels. That market represents a significant opportunity for American farmers, ethanol producers, and rural communities.

In the letter, ACA CEO Tom Buis outlines how capturing even a small share of the global marine fuel market could create demand for billions of additional gallons of ethanol and more than 1.5 billion bushels of corn annually.

The letter encourages the Administration to:

  • Support technology-neutral policies at the International Maritime Organization that recognize corn ethanol.
  • Ensure U.S. negotiators advocate for corn ethanol in international maritime fuel standards.
  • Align domestic clean fuel policies to support marine fuel applications.
  • Promote research and infrastructure that accelerates ethanol’s use in the shipping industry.

American agriculture doesn’t need another bailout. It needs new markets.

With the right policies, corn ethanol can help strengthen America’s energy leadership while creating long-term demand for U.S. farmers and rural communities.
