American Carbon Alliance Statement on the GREET Act

URBANDALE, Iowa (Oct.19, 2023) – The American Carbon Alliance (ACA) issued the following statement in response to U.S. Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introducing the Adopt Greenhouse Gas and Regulated Emissions and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) Act, which would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update its greenhouse gas modeling to the GREET model.

The GREET model is a beacon of progressive energy modeling, offering a contemporary blueprint for the United States’ evolving energy landscape. It is a superior alternative to outdated approaches such as CORSIA, and aligning with American-made modeling will enable the U.S. to become energy-independent in the very near future.

ACA CEO Tom Buis released the following statement:

“We’re thankful for the bipartisan work on bringing forth the GREET Act and we strongly support its passage. Ethanol is the largest sustainable low-carbon fuel that yields advantages beyond conventional energy uses. With increasing yields, it will serve as the prime feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel if we are able to update to the GREET model. This change would benefit American aviation, boost energy security, and enhance our path to independence from foreign oil suppliers.”

The American Carbon Alliance (ACA) is formed to be one unified voice for carbon capture pipelines, ethanol producers, landowners, farmers, construction trade workers and citizens that embrace this new energy future for America. Working together, this alliance will strengthen America’s agricultural economy, ensure a future marketplace for American produced liquid fuel and improve the environment for all.
