POET Joins American Carbon Alliance

URBANDALE, Iowa (Feb. 26, 2024) – POET, the world’s largest bioethanol producer, has officially joined the American Carbon Alliance, a coalition dedicated to advancing carbon reduction initiatives across industries. This strategic partnership underscores POET’s commitment to capturing carbon at their plants, improving bioethanol’s carbon index, and creating new market opportunities for farmers, bioethanol producers, and rural communities.

“The safe and responsible use of carbon capture represents a consequential opportunity to transform rural economies and benefit farm families, much like the bioethanol industry has done over the past four decades,” said Joshua Shields, POET Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “Leveraging carbon capture to further decarbonize bioethanol provides new market opportunities and adds value to every bushel of corn and every acre of land.”

Capturing CO2 and extracting value from that process will create new jobs, local investments, and sustained economic growth in rural America as well as larger cities. Most importantly, capturing CO2 will ultimately increase corn basis for local farmers. By joining forces with the American Carbon Alliance, POET aims to make sure every American comprehends the value that carbon capture can bring.

“POET’s decision to join the American Carbon Alliance is a testament to their leadership in the homegrown renewable energy sector and their commitment to America’s farmers and rural communities,” said Tom Buis, ACA CEO. “We are excited to welcome them to our coalition and look forward to working together to advance our shared goals of building a more sustainable future and strengthening America’s agriculture economy.”
