American Carbon Alliance Urges Adoption of GREET Model

URBANDALE, Iowa (Aug. 23, 2023) – The American Carbon Alliance (ACA) today called on the U.S. Treasury to adopt the U.S. Department of Energy’s Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Technologies (GREET) model in the evaluation of the life cycle emissions impact of biofuels, specifically within the realm of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.

According to the letter from the ACA, the GREET model emerges as a beacon of progressive energy modeling. GREET offers a contemporary blueprint for our evolving energy landscape. They went on to urge the IRS to adopt GREET as a superior alternative to outdated approaches such as CORSIA, created by America’s foreign adversaries.

Aligning ourselves with American-made modeling will enable the U.S. to become energy independent in the very near future,” said Tom Buis, CEO of the American Carbon Alliance. “This change would benefit American Aviation, boost energy security, and enhance our path to independence from foreign oil suppliers. We strongly urge the inclusion of GREET within the Inflation Reduction Act.”
