American Carbon Alliance Releases Statement on GREET Announcement

URBANDALE, Iowa (April 30, 2024) – The American Carbon Alliance (ACA) released the following statement from ACA CEO Tom Buis, on today’s news about U.S. Treasury Department’s guidance for the Inflation Reduction Act provisions for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF):

“The GREET model is the absolute gold standard when it comes to evaluating the environmental impacts of fuels. It is an important first step for our industry that for the first time, the U.S. Treasury has used the GREET model in federal tax policy.

“Today’s guidance recognizes the pivotal role that corn ethanol can play as the feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuels, this is a good first step. We look forward to improvements that are forthcoming, as Treasury develops guidance for the 45Z provisions, as outlined by Secretary Vilsack. We will continue to advocate for corn ethanol as a part of the solution when it comes to Sustainable Aviation Fuels. This will ensure that farmers have access to new markets, the agriculture industry thrives, and economies across rural America will be reenergized.”
