Ohio Can Lead on Low-Carbon Energy with HB 170

The American Carbon Alliance recently submitted testimony in strong support of HB 170, a forward-looking bill that would position Ohio as a national leader in carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). This legislation creates the regulatory framework necessary for Ohio to obtain Class VI primacy, streamlining approvals for CO₂ storage projects and unlocking new economic opportunities for ethanol producers and farmers.

With seven ethanol plants processing 200 million bushels of corn each year, Ohio is well-positioned to benefit from CCS technology. HB 170 would not only reduce emissions but also help producers access premium low-carbon fuel markets, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The bill could generate billions in economic value for the state’s ag sector while creating high-paying jobs and ensuring rural communities thrive in a clean energy economy.
