American Carbon Alliance Backs 45Q and 45Z Tax Credits as Key to Agriculture’s Future

URBANDALE, Iowa (Feb. 27, 2025) –The American Carbon Alliance (ACA) today reaffirmed its strong support for both the 45Q tax credit and the 45Z tax credit, emphasizing the critical role they play in strengthening American agriculture, expanding carbon capture infrastructure, and driving rural economic growth.

ACA CEO Tom Buis underscored their importance, stating:

“The 45Q and 45Z are some of the most effective tools we have to keep American agriculture strong and competitive. With farm income declining and producers facing rising costs, carbon capture and sequestration present a real opportunity to create new markets for ethanol and ensure long-term demand for corn. By capturing and utilizing CO2, we can unlock new revenue streams for ethanol producers, drive rural investment, and strengthen the entire ag economy.

“Simply put, without these credits, opportunities disappear. Farmers, ethanol producers, and rural communities need certainty to plan for the future, and that’s why extending and strengthening the 45Q and 45Z is critical. We urge policymakers to stand with agriculture and ensure this vital program remains in place.”
